T-GEx Associate Dr. SHINTANI A. Seine, College of Life and Health Sciences Chubu University, received top prize in the Basic Science Research Division of the Aichi Prefecture "Wakashachi Encouragement Award".
The Basic Science Research Division focuses on basic research to discover new phenomena related to natural science and elucidate their mechanisms.

Award-winning proposal: Elucidation of intramyocardial biomolecule dynamics using electron microscopy live imaging

Proposal overview:
They discovered that when the heart muscle is heated, the sarcomeres enter a state of thermal oscillations (HSOs), which maintains the cycle by regulating the amplitude and speed of the oscillations. For further research, we are developing and improving an electron microscopy live imaging method (DET membrane method) that measures the dynamics of sarcomeres and biomolecules inside them.
