A research group led by Dr. Hisashi Hayakawa (IAR/ISEE, Nagoya University) has clarified the spatial extent, temporal evolution, and color of the aurora borealis in Japan by studying observation records and sketches of auroral appearances observed in Japan from 1957 to 1958. The results of this research were introduced in various media.
